It's a couple of days old, but I just discovered a classic line in this report on the Ekka*:
Organisers say it is bigger and better than ever.
I covered the country shows round for the Queensland Times many moons ago, and the first thing I learnt was that the organisers always say a show is bigger and better than last year - and that, in the absence of emperical evidence to back it up, I should take the statement with a grain of salt. What else are they going to say? That it's smaller and worse, or (more accurately) that it's more or less the same as it always is?
