Activities up in the air

To doze or not to doze? That is the question. To sleep, perchance to dream, or to watch the latest cinema blockbuster on the inflight video?

The issue of what to do on a long-haul flight has vexed many a traveller and travel blogger, so I thought I might as well weigh in.

Wikihow suggests such simple pleasures as reading magazines or books, doing crossword puzzles, study or do some work, gaze out the window, walk around the plane, snack, nap or “befriend seatmate”.

Tripcase has a bunch of left-field suggestions, ranging from editing your photos on your smartphone or laptop/ tablet to learning a language, learning to code or colouring in (the latest adult fad).

And Yahoo Travel has some practical ideas such as hydrate (i.e. drink lots of water), moisturize, limit your pre-flight carbs, use breathing techniques and brush your teeth.

For me, it’s usually a simple matter of eating, drinking and sleeping, with maybe some reading or viewing/listening to the entertainment programs.

  1. “Befriend seatmate”? I’d hate to sit beside anyone trying to follow that advice.

BD, if I travelled in first class every time, like a certain person, I would drink triple espressos to stay aak and savour every minute, even all the way to Australia.
